The Journey to Rebuilding the Bulk Fuel Plant

Ft. Myers bulk fuel plantIn 2017, we realized the Fort Myers plant needed serious updates to keep up with the growing demand for bulk fuel. Back then, the site served both Quick Fuel Cardlock services and Jacobus Energy, but over time, it became clear that we needed to focus solely on fuel delivery. The old Quick Fuel station demolition marked the first major step in our rebuild.

While keeping the older bulk plant operational, we carefully designed and built a new facility from the ground up. Balancing ongoing operations with major construction wasn’t easy, but we made it work to avoid disrupting fuel services for our customers. The result? A state-of-the-art bulk fuel plant with advanced features that allow us to serve the Fort Myers area better and beyond.

What’s New at the Fort Myers Bulk Fuel Plant

The new facility is a huge upgrade from what we had before. The original plant, built in the 1960s, had a storage capacity of around 95,000 gallons across five aboveground storage tanks (ASTs). The new plant now holds over 130,000 gallons of fuel with six ASTs, giving us a much larger capacity to meet the demand for bulk fuel.

One of the highlights of the new plant is the concrete containment wall. This wall has three different sealants to offer maximum protection from potential spills. It also features a loading rack pad with a smart design that directs liquid to the center and into an oil-water separator tank. This setup meets strict environmental regulations and protects the plant from the heavy rains that are common in Fort Myers.

We’ve also made some high-tech upgrades. Our old plant relied on a slow dial-up connection for monitoring inventory. Now, we have a state-of-the-art system that’s accessible online. This makes it easier for our supply team to manage fuel levels and monitor operations remotely, ensuring the mobile fuel delivery process runs smoothly. This upgrade gives us more control and visibility over the site.

Enhanced Security and Safety Features

Security and safety were top priorities during this rebuild. The new plant is surrounded by a six-foot-tall barbed wire fence with sliding gates for truck access, ensuring that the site is protected while maintaining functionality for our fleet. We’ve also added LED lighting and security cameras, which not only improve visibility but also help us monitor everything that happens at the plant.

Given the site’s low-lying nature, we’ve added concrete valley curbs to assist with drainage and protect the plant during heavy rainstorms. We even repaved the entire parking lot to make sure it holds up over time and can handle the daily flow of trucks coming and going for mobile fueling.
